Capabilities and apps that match your work

Organizations are made up of many people with different roles who execute unique tasks. User types provide a flexible way for people to license the capabilities and apps they need to do their work in ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise. For example, certain people in an organization build maps or edit data, while others securely view and interact with their organization's maps and apps. Explore the flexible licensing options available for your organization.

Components of a user type

All user types include identity, capabilities, and apps.

  • Identity: Your unique username and password—the gateway to access capabilities, apps, and content others share with you
  • Capabilities: What you can do within ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise—for example, create, edit, or view content
  • Apps: Software that you can use in conjunction with ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise

Foundational user types

Every subscription requires at least one foundational user type to activate and administer ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise. The Creator and GIS Professional user types can be purchased independently or paired with any foundational or dependent user types.
