{"id":413852,"date":"2022-06-28T19:15:55","date_gmt":"2022-06-28T19:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uat.esri.com\/en-us\/industries\/blog\/?post_type=blog&#038;p=413852"},"modified":"2022-06-30T22:11:34","modified_gmt":"2022-06-30T22:11:34","slug":"what-community-development-professionals-can-expect-at-the-esri-user-conference","status":"publish","type":"blog","link":"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/en-us\/industries\/blog\/articles\/what-community-development-professionals-can-expect-at-the-esri-user-conference","title":{"rendered":"What Community Development Professionals Can Expect at the Esri User Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"undefined block-editor-paragraph\">For the first time since 2019, the Esri International User Conference will be in person\u2026and thank goodness.&nbsp; Attendance looks like it will be very close to pre-pandemic levels, which is even more inspiring.&nbsp; As of today, there are nearly 1,000 attendees working in the planning, housing, or economic development industries.&nbsp; Since I\u2019m unabashedly partial to these attendees, I wanted to put together some events that those of you in the community development field will want to add to your agenda.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>There are several sessions focused on the work being done with ArcGIS Urban, including:<ul><li>Understanding Geodesign \u2013 Tuesday at 10:00 in Room 30D<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Introduction to ArcGIS Urban \u2013 Tuesday at 2:30 in Room 4<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Implementing Planning Workflows \u2013 Wednesday at 10:00 in Room 33 and Thursday at 10:00 in Room 30A<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>There will also be some enlightening presentations from users.&nbsp; A few I would recommend:<ul><li>A Regional Approach to Smart Planning \u2013 Wednesday at 1:00 in Room 29A<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Leveraging GIS for Community Engagement \u2013 Wednesday at 2:30 in 29A<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Next-Gen Applications for Future Planning \u2013 Thursday at 8:30 in Room 29B<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Creating Affordable Housing Strategies \u2013 Thursday at 10:00 in Room 29B<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Civic inclusion is still a highly-prevalent topic, and there are sessions that show how ArcGIS Hub makes this a reality on Tuesday at 1:00 in Room 30A, Wednesday at 8:30 in Room 30B, and Thursday at 4:00.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"920\" height=\"614\" src=\"https:\/\/uat.esri.com\/en-us\/industries\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/g488766-uc2019b-01623-resize.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-413912\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.esri.com\/en-us\/industries\/blog\/app\/uploads\/2022\/06\/g488766-uc2019b-01623-resize.jpg 920w, https:\/\/www.esri.com\/en-us\/industries\/blog\/app\/uploads\/2022\/06\/g488766-uc2019b-01623-resize-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.esri.com\/en-us\/industries\/blog\/app\/uploads\/2022\/06\/g488766-uc2019b-01623-resize-768x513.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 920px) 100vw, 920px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If you didn\u2019t know that there are a few dozen apps\u2026free, fully-supported, open-source, configurable apps\u2026dealing specifically with planning and economic development, you need to attend the ArcGIS Solutions for Local and State Government session Thursday at 8:30 in Ballroom 6.&nbsp; I mean, it\u2019s in a ballroom.&nbsp; You know it\u2019s important.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Living Atlas is an incredible resource for planning and GIS professionals.\u00a0 You\u2019re missing out if you\u2019re not taking advantage of this.\u00a0 We provide an overview of it on Tuesday at 10:00 in Room 2 and then dive into how it is used to create policy maps on Wednesday at 10:00 in Room 4. You\u2019ll be overwhelmed by the choices you have. Many of the most popular technical sessions are offered multiple times.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Along those lines, plan for plenty of time in the Esri Expo.&nbsp; It closes Thursday afternoon. The Expo provides an opportunity to meet team members focused on a specific industry (like Planning), a specific product (like ArcGIS Urban, Hub, or Pro), meet with business partners, new startups, and more.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Wear comfortable shoes. The San Diego Convention Center is enormous.&nbsp; On average, I\u2019ll walk between 5-6 miles.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/uat.esri.com\/en-us\/industries\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/g488766-uc2019a-09596-newresize-1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-414072\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If you live east of the Rockies, you will find San Diego to be very dry and you\u2019ll end up drinking more water than normal.&nbsp; The evenings cool off fairly well.&nbsp; As someone that lives in the Southeast a week in San Diego in July is a welcome respite.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"undefined block-editor-paragraph\">We can\u2019t wait to see you out in
