Tools that are not available in ArcGIS Pro

ArcGIS Desktop has approximately 1,000 tools. ArcGIS Pro, a newer and more modern technology, has more than double the number of tools. With each release, the collection of tools in ArcGIS Pro continues to expand.

While the majority of the tools from ArcGIS Desktop are also in ArcGIS Pro, a few are not.

Tools from ArcGIS Desktop that are not in ArcGIS Pro are often tied to legacy data formats or have been eclipsed by improved tools and practices. For example, tools related to raster catalogs have been replaced with tools that work with mosaic datasets. Tools that work with geometric networks have been supplanted by tools that work with trace networks and utility networks. Metadata-related tools have been superseded by functionality in the arcpy.metadata module.

The sections below provide details for specific toolboxes and tools. Many tools have alternatives, which are listed.

Note:

To evaluate your tools, models, and scripts for compatibility issues, use the Analyze script and model tools for ArcGIS Pro compatibility option or the Analyze Tools For Pro tool.

3D Analyst tools

  • Export To 3D Web Scene

Bathymetry tools

  • Export BIS Metadata
  • Export Deconflicted Footprints
  • Export Footprints
  • Export Points

Coverage tools

Coverages are a legacy format that is not supported in ArcGIS Pro, so the entire toolbox has been removed.

Cartography tools

Grids and graticules

  • Delete Grids And Graticules
  • Make Grids and Graticules Layer has been replaced by the Make Grids and Graticules Layer tool in the Topographic Production toolbox.

Grids and graticules can be converted to graphics layers and feature classes using the Convert To Graphics and Convert To Features commands on a grid element in a layout.

Representation Management

Learn how to convert representations for use in ArcGIS Pro

  • Add Representations
  • Calculate Representation Rule
  • Drop Representation
  • Remove Override
  • Select Feature By Override
  • Set Layer Representation
  • Set Representation Control Point At Intersect
  • Set Representation Control Point By Angle
  • Update Override

Conversion tools

CAD

  • Import CAD Annotation

Access CAD text from the CAD feature dataset as an annotation feature class or a point feature class that can be labeled.

The CAD annotation feature class can be copied to a geodatabase in the same way that any other feature class can be copied. Alternatively, use the CAD To Geodatabase tool to add a CAD annotation feature class to a geodatabase.

Coverage

Coverages are not supported in ArcGIS Pro.

  • Feature Class To Coverage
  • Import Coverage Annotation

Metadata

Metadata geoprocessing tools are not available in ArcGIS Pro; however, you can automate metadata workflows using the arcpy.metadata module.

  • Create Replica Footprints

Feature Class

Geodatabase Administration

  • Upgrade Spatial Reference

The Upgrade Spatial Reference tool is primarily used with personal geodatabase feature classes, which are not supported in ArcGIS Pro.

Geometric Network

Geometric networks are a read-only dataset in ArcGIS Pro. ArcGIS Pro includes two capabilities you can use to manage, model, and analyze network systems: the Trace Network and the Utility Network.

  • Add Edge-Edge Connectivity Rule To Geometric Network
  • Add Edge-Junction Connectivity Rule To Geometry Network
  • Create Geometric Network
  • Find Disconnected Features in Geometric Network
  • Rebuild Geometric Network
  • Remove Connectivity Rule From Geometric Network
  • Remove Empty Feature Class From Geometric Network
  • Set Flow Direction
  • Trace Geometric Network
  • Verify And Repair Geometric Network Connectivity

Graph

  • Make Graph
  • Save Graph

Graphing and charting capabilities in ArcGIS Pro have been redesigned. Graphs and graph templates created in ArcMap are not supported in ArcGIS Pro.

Use the ArcPy Chart class to automate the creation of charts in ArcGIS Pro.

Additionally, you can author a layer with charts, save the layer as a layer file, and set that layer file as the Symbology property for custom script tool or model tool output parameters. When the script or model tool is run, the charts are automatically created for the new output datasets.

Package

Raster Catalog

Raster catalogs are a read-only dataset in ArcGIS Pro.

Learn about migrating raster catalogs to mosaic datasets

  • Copy Raster Catalog Items
  • Create Raster Catalog
  • Delete Raster Catalog Items
  • Export Raster Catalog Paths
  • Make Raster Catalog Layer
  • Raster Catalog To Raster Dataset
  • Repair Raster Catalog Paths
  • Workspace To Raster Catalog

Workspace

  • Create ArcInfo Workspace—ArcInfo workspaces are not supported in ArcGIS Pro.
  • Create ArcSDE Connection File—This tool has been replaced by the Create Database Connection tool.
  • Create Personal GDB—Personal geodatabases are not supported in ArcGIS Pro.

Data Reviewer tools

  • Geodatabase Schema Compare

Location Referencing tools

The Location Referencing Tools toolbox in ArcGIS Pro combines many of the tools available in the Pipeline Referencing and Roads and Highways toolboxes in ArcMap.

  • Calculate Route Concurrencies
  • Convert M-Value Units Of Measure
  • Convert Table To CSV File
  • Detect Gaps For Linear Events
  • Detect Measures Out Of Range
  • Detect Non-Monotonic Routes
  • Detect Overlaps For Linear Events

Maritime tools

Note:

ArcGIS Maritime supports workflows for managing and producing hydrographic data in compliance with International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) standards.

  • Convert AML Format

Network Analyst tools

Server

ArcGIS Pro provides the same enhanced network analysis capabilities available in the Server toolset through other tools in the Network Analyst toolbox, and the interactive network analysis workflow.

  • Find Closest Facilities
  • Find Routes
  • Generate Service Areas
  • Make Vehicle Routing Problem Layer
  • Solve Location-Allocation
  • Update Traffic Data
  • Update Traffic Incidents

Parcel Fabric tools

The legacy parcel fabric for ArcMap is supported as a read-only dataset in ArcGIS Pro. You cannot create new or edit existing parcel fabrics for ArcMap in ArcGIS Pro, so the entire toolbox has been replaced.

ArcGIS Pro includes an enhanced parcel fabric that provides a comprehensive framework for managing, editing, and sharing parcel data in ArcGIS Enterprise, including the Parcel Tools toolbox.

Schematics tools

Legacy schematics are not supported in ArcGIS Pro, so the entire toolbox has been removed.

Utility Network schematic diagrams allow you to generate symbolic and simplified representations of the geographic features in a network.
