Requirements

  • System requirements

    • Windows 10 and above.
    • A hard-wired, high-speed Internet connection. Wi-Fi connections are supported, but you may experience performance issues.
    • An HTML 5-enabled web browser with cookies, JavaScript ActiveX, and plug-ins enabled. We recommend the latest versions of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge.
    • The ability to download digital course materials and connect to a virtual machine using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP).
    • A firewall configuration that allows access to ports 443 and 3389. Proxies must be disabled or configured to allow access.

  • ArcGIS account

    To attend class, you will need to sign in with an ArcGIS account. If you don’t have an account, it’s at no cost and easy to create a public account. Your account must use the same email address to which your course-related emails are sent in order to access the classroom, course materials, and your certificate of completion.

Test your connection

  • Get ready for the online classroom

    Web conferencing software is used to view the class video, and you will participate in class using either computer audio or a telephone (students attending from outside the United States must use their computer audio). High-speed internet is required. For the best experience, use a USB headset with a microphone, two monitors, and a hard-wired internet connection (Wi-Fi is not recommended).

    To complete the hands-on course exercises, you will access Esri software installed on a Microsoft Azure (cloud-based) virtual machine.

Connecting to a virtual machine using a browser is usually the easiest method. HTML5 is supported in current versions of modern browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Microsoft Edge is not supported.

  1. Go to https://mylab.esri.com/test.
  2. Click the blue Run test button. The test will take about a minute to complete.
    • If all tests display green, your assessment was successful and you should be able to connect to your virtual machine during class.
    • If any of the tests display a red error, please contact your IT administrator.

For the Winfows 10 users:

  1. Use your Start menu or Taskbar to search for Remote Desktop Connection and click the app to open it.
  2. Enter the computer address 20.165.35.2 and click Connect.
    Note: This address is only for testing your connection. You will be provided with a unique computer address on the Attend Class tab during class.
  3. In the Windows Security dialog box, choose More choices, select Use a different account, and then sign in with the following credentials:
    • Username: student
    • Password: Esri.Training12345! (password is case-sensitive)

    You will see a confirmation message on the remote desktop after the connection is successful.

  4. Close the session.

  • Contact your IT team

    Your organization’s network or firewall settings may impact your class experience. If you encounter issues when performing the connection tests, contact your IT administrator as soon as possible and share the Online Classroom Technical Requirements PDF.
