Exam development information

Esri Technical Certification updates their exams every 18–24 months to ensure they are of the highest quality, align with the Esri software best practices, and meet the needs of the GIS industry.

To ensure we meet these standards, we invite ArcGIS users to participate in exam development activities.

Exam retirement

To become an Esri-Certified Individual, a candidate must earn a passing score on the high-stakes proctored exam. Exam retirement only applies to the exam; the certification achieved is never retired.

  • Exam retirement is approximately 18–24 months from the exam’s publication date
  • Exam retirement does not affect the status of the certification

Join us in Esri Community  to learn more about exam retirement and the retirement schedule.

Beta exams

Esri beta exams are available to the entire GIS community of Esri customers, Esri business partners, international distributors, and Esri employees. A certification will be awarded to individuals who successfully pass beta exams. Candidates will be notified of their results 8–10 weeks after the close of the beta period. Beta exam vouchers cost US$250.00.
