The Second Syrian GIS Week

Hi-Tech House (HTH), Esri's distributor in Syria, is dedicated to spreading GIS knowledge all over Syria. Consequently, it is preparing its second annual GIS Week this year to coincide with the November 15, 2000, GIS Day along similar lines to their very successful 1999 event.

Anticipated activities are a GIS evening where the public is invited to view the new generation of GIS tools and many exciting applications and a presentation conducted for professors and postgraduate students at Damascus University, as well as a GIS seminar for members of the Damascus branch of the Syrian order of engineers.

The Governorate of Damascus is cooperating with HI-TECH HOUSE in organizing an entire GIS Day. Presentations will be made to the Mayor and staff of the Governorate in the historic city hall. Following this, GIS Week moves to the University of Aleppo where people from many organizations and government agencies will attend the presentation of GIS concepts and applications.

The first Syrian GIS Week (November 20-30, 1999) had as its theme "Leaping to the 21st Century" and was a complete success. While preparing for the second GIS Week, Hi-Tech House would like to thank Dr. Bashar Alassad, the president of the Syrian Computer Society, and now the new leader of Syria, for always encouraging the use of technology in building the future of Syria.
