14th Annual European User Conference

Munich Toasts GIS!

14th Annual Esri European User Conference logoEsri-Germany organized the very successful 1999 European User Conference in Munich from November 15-17, 1999. There was a record number of attendees--exceeding 1,000--400 of which came from across the borders. The exhibition also drew more than 50 Business partners--another record.

During the first day, Jack Dangermond opened the conference with an overview of GIS now and in the new millennium, while David Maguire, Esri director of product planning, talked more specifically about Esri software products.

The two days after the conference opening were filled with more than 19 tracks of presentations and several technical workshops. Among the presentation tracks was a special military track that was attended by military users from many European countries. The introductory courses for ArcInfo 8 were extremely well attended, a sign of the building anticipation for this significant new release.

Tuesday evening was a festive night as Esri-Germany celebrated not only this User Conference but also its 20th anniversary. It was the first distributor on the European continent and has grown in those years into an organization of more than 80 employees working at six different locations in two different countries!

Next year's conference will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, October 18-20, 2000. Because of this location and the special year, it will be a true meeting point for East and West. It will also be the User Conference for the Middle East and Africa. For more information, contact Islem GIS (tel.: 90-312-235-6490, fax: 90-312-235-5682, Web: www.islem.com.tr).
