Overview


The Forest Association of Entre Douro and Tâmega (AFEDT), is a private non-profit organization that is based in the municipalities of Amarante, Baião, Cinfães, Marco de Canaveses and Resende, which are part of its intervention area. Federated in Forestis - Associação Florestal de Portugal, AFEDT was created in 1996 due to the need to unite forest owners in an organized and sustainable way for forest protection and forest management. The association provides its members with technical support covering all stages of forest management that involves the choice of the species to be planted, wood sales and placing in the best markets, to the best forestry practices. In addition to this support, which involves visits and counseling, comes another planning and fire prevention work at a higher level? The forestry association represents about 600 forest owners and provides support to more than 9,000 hectares of forest area. It is the entity responsible of 3 forest intervention zones (ZIF of Aboim, ZIF of Gondar and ZIF of Montedeiras). The structure of the forest association is composed of 25 forest workers distributed by 5 teams and a technical team composed of 3 elements, 2 technical and one administrative. AFEDT has established partnerships with public entities (Institute of Nature Conservation and Forests, and Municipalities), namely, through protocols related to the constitution and operation of Forest Workers Teams.
