ICF International has supported Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) in development, analyses, and visualization of geospatial environmental and cultural resources information to assist in long-range regional planning for electric transmission facilities. ICF compiled a 14-statewide geospatial database drawn from U.S. federal, state, and regional public agencies and conservation organizations and performed a quality assessment and fitness-for-use analysis of the compiled data. ICF developed and implemented a geographic information systems (GIS)-based methodology to characterize environmental risk of new transmission development and collaborated with state historic preservation offices to develop methods to characterize relative risk of development to cultural and tribal resources. ICF designed and built a web mapping application to provide WECC stakeholders with access to key data sets.
