Independent System Operators (ISOs) and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) are entities responsible for grid management, market operations, transmission planning, conducting risk assessments and developing reliability coordination. Some examples of ISOs include: California Independent System Operator (CAISO), New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) and Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). NERC operates in six regional entities across North America: Florida Reliability Coordinating Council (FRCC), Midwest Reliability Organization (MRO), Northeast Power Coordinating Council (NPCC), ReliabilityFirst Corporation (RFO), SERC Reliability Corporation (SERC) and the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC).
