Description:
The NRCS has classified the soils across the United States into a series of capability classes, a rating that estimates the ability of the soil to be used for growing crops or other uses. A rating from 1 to 8, which becomes more limited in the ability to grow crops as it increases. There may be limitations in some parts of the country against developing projects in soils of class 1 or 2 to protect those lands for crop growth. LandGate provides a nationwide visualization of these classes so users can quickly determine what limitations may be on the property.
