LandGate provides a nationwide visualization of classified soils across the United States. The capability classes are a rating that estimates the ability of the soil to be used for growing crops or other uses. A rating from 1 to 8, which becomes more limited in the ability to grow crops as it increases. There may be limitations in some parts of the country against developing projects in soils of class 1 or 2 to protect those lands for crop growth. These classes are used so users can quickly determine what limitations may be on the property.
