Description:

World Vision India (WVI) is a NGO. It collects data on several aspects of Indian villages in 150 districts where it has active projects. This data is required to support informed decisions within their organization and by local communities. ML Infomap was chosen by WVI to develop a solution to facilitate collection of these data from villages on mobile phones and design server applications to view and analyse these primary data on Web maps of India. ML Infomap identified and chose ArcGIS 10.2 server and desktop platform to implement and host this project for two years. The company also supplied digital maps for administrative boundaries of India and secondary resources map layers. The solution has been successfully tested and implemented. World Vision India has volunteers gather data in the villages of 150 districts spread across India on inexpensive Android mobile phones. The data collected include information relating to geographic information, health, general services, education, agriculture, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) and schools. They also collect information on climate change, disaster preparedness and response. This data is organized, analyzed and reported in tables, graphs and maps at the server end. The mobile and Web applications have been designed, developed and tested by our company, ML Infomap. The data collected in the field by the WVI volunteers is sent to the servers, hosted at our data centre. The Web applications are accessed by authorized WVI staff only. Data is added or updated after being authenticated by them. Benefits The solution solves the problem of gathering field contact survey data over a vast region, where communications is poor. Keeping this in mind, the mobile app is designed in online and offline mode. Data is stored on the mobile and uploaded when network connection is available. The system saves time between data collection and becoming available to management to utilize it. The chief benefit to managers is to be able to evaluate programs in remote villages from their offices and also to respond to situations there quickly. ML Infomap takes the responsibility of hosting and administering the ArcGIS server, data and apps, thereby ensuring WVI can fully utilize the software on purchase, without first having to train technicians. While WVI staff are trained, the solution will be maintained by ML Infomap.
