The Lake Hancock Trails Master Plan establishes the vision of a completed network of trails surrounding Lake Hancock and connecting to the surrounding areas in Polk County, FL. The Master plan includes 31 trail projects, adding a total of 50.75 miles of new trail. This project map served as a guiding point through which the project team could focus on key destinations/connections that would be served on a macro scale. After reviewing the existing conditions, smaller scale maps were generated focusing on each of the initial corridors and were presented to stakeholders for review. Combining stakeholder (both general public and agency) review with the compiled existing conditions information, the alignment alternatives were identified and further refined before applying the implementation strategies included in the final map. Once completed, the GIS application was developed to enhance the client’s experience by allowing them to filter data and review each proposed improvement. All supporting details are directly linked to the corresponding project, providing a comprehensive and interactive decision-making tool.
