The Stone has historically used the California Pesticide Use Reporting database data as an incredibly valuable resource to support project work, but the database was difficult to work with in its pure data form. To help automate and facilitate its use, Stone created a FLEX-based ArcGIS Server application to present 11 years of pesticide use (2000-2010) from California's Pesticide Use Reporting (PUR) program data. This database contains data on 1,278 chemicals on 280 crop uses. Its current functionality includes: visual animation of pesticide use over time using year slider; dynamic legend, click on section for bar chart of 11 year history; optimized responsiveness; options for filter (chemical, units, sites, and year). Further development will allow the user to summarize the information by watershed, county, or user defined areas.
