Overview

VDE Americas is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the VDE Association for Electrical, Electronic, and Information Technologies. Headquartered in Germany, the VDE group employs more than 2,000 people in over 60 locations worldwide. The group’s standards-making network and technical societies include roughly 36,000 members, making VDE one of the largest technology organizations in Europe Founded in 2013, VDE Americas provides technical advisory and risk mitigation services to stakeholders working on solar, energy storage, and solar-plus-storage system transactions. We supported funding for roughly 10% of the operating utility-scale PV project capacity fielded in the United States over the 5-year period from 2016 to 2022. Cumulatively, we have served as a technical advisor for more than 10 GW of solar PV projects and more than 4.5 GW of BESS capacity. Our goal is to support the global energy transition by advancing the deployment of clean energy projects that are bankable, investable, and insurable. To this end, we offer technical advisory services specifically focused on the renewable energy industry. Our solar and energy storage projects services include independent engineering reports and certificates, performance engineering, construction monitoring, system commissioning, equipment reviews, technology reviews, testing services, and owner’s engineering. We are the world’s leading expert in hail risk analysis for utility-scale solar projects.

Overview:

VDE Americas' novel meteorological and economic hail risk maps empower project stakeholders to make informed risk management decisions. We offer best-in-class hail risk mapping data in ArcGIS via a software subscription model. Specifically, we provide ArcGIS maps that quantify hail risk in both meteorological and, in the case of utility-scale solar projects, in economic terms (probable maximum loss and average annual loss). VDE Americas hail risk mapping data covers the continental United States (CONUS).
