Kenya to Host AFRICAGIS '01AFRICAGIS '01 will be held November 5-9, 2001, and will be hosted jointly by the Ministry of Lands and Settlement of Kenya and the United Nations Environment Programme with the support of the Geoinformation Society of Kenya, the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development, and the International Centre of Insect Physiology & Ecology among many other Kenyan institutions. The objectives of AFRICAGIS are to provide a platform for geoinformation professionals from Africa and abroad to learn from the application of geoinformation technology and to be updated on the latest products and technological developments. It also provides an opportunity for interaction among practitioners to share information and knowledge to forward the progress of the development and application of geoinformation technologies to meet African needs. AFRICAGIS was first launched in Tunisia in 1993 by the Observatory of Sahel Sahara and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research. Since then the event has been held in Abidjan, C�te d'Ivoire (1995); Gaborone, Botswana (1997); and Accra, Ghana (1999). A consortium comprising EIS-AFRICA, the African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment, and the African Organisation for Cartography and Remote Sensing now organizes the series.
