The 20th Asian Conference on Remote SensingThe 20th Asian Conference on Remote Sensing was held November 2225, 1999, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. The conference emphasized the development of remote sensing and GIS and brought together more than 450 participants including officers, leading researchers, and scientists in more than 40 professional associations from Asia and other parts of the world to exchange views on the development of remote sensing and GIS in Asia. Esri Hong Kong sponsored a booth and a Business meeting at which Jack Dangermond, president of Esri, gave the presentation "GIS Future in the 21st Century." Three keynote speakers of the open ceremony were Dangermond; Professor Shupeng Chen, honorary director, Institute of Remote Sensing Applications, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and adviser, National Remote Sensing Center of China; and Dr. Marc D'Iorio, chief of Industrial Cooperation and the head of Applications Development Section, Canada Centre for Remote Sensing.
