Digital City in Canada

Geared for managers and technicians, the Digital City seminar series provides municipalities with integrated GIS solutions to increase productivity and efficiency in the services they offer. Esri Canada kicked off the series on January 18, 2000, in London, Ontario, to a full house of municipal government officials. The theme for the day long seminar was "Knowledge Is Power," with an emphasis on using GIS to facilitate work flow. The digital city of the future will have integrated databases, focused organizationwide applications, increased efficiency and online public access to information services. GIS is the central element that ties everything together.

In the afternoon the focus switched to the challenges facing municipalities and provided a viable project plan for implementing an enterprise GIS solution. In addition, technicians were able to test some of the solutions presented in the morning session.

This was followed by successful seminars in Ottawa, Ontario; North Bay, Ontario; Vancouver, British Columbia; and Richmond Hill, Ontario, representing the greater Toronto area. For more information, please visit www.esricanada.com/events/digitalcity.
