Announcing ArcIMS 3.1

The newest version of ArcIMS, Esri's versatile GIS and mapping software for the Internet, will be available in the spring of 2001.

ArcIMS 3.1 has been both internationalized and localized. For example, ArcIMS now accommodates 16-bit characters such as Chinese and Japanese, and it supports local settings such as commas for numeric separators.

Other enhancements include

  • Improved security. ArcIMS now performs user authentication for MapServices. Also, access to MapServices can be limited to a specified set of users.
  • Users' ability to create their own connectors, in addition to using the provided ColdFusion and ActiveX connectors. This is made possible with a new link to the ArcIMS Application Server. A new sample has been included to show the implementation of Java Server Pages and Java beans with ArcIMS.
  • Improved support for ArcSDE raster images.
  • Pie and bar charts.
  • Java 1.3 runtime environment with advanced technology to improve performance.

In addition, ArcIMS 3.1 is supported on the IBM AIX platform.

ArcIMS 3 customers who are current on their maintenance will automatically receive ArcIMS 3.1 at no additional cost.

To purchase ArcIMS, contact the Esri office nearest you or your local Esri reseller. You can also call Esri directly at 1-800-477-9778 (in the United States). Outside the United States, contact your local Esri distributor.
