Announcing MapObjects 2.1

Esri is about to launch a new version of MapObjects, its powerful set of embeddable GIS and mapping components. MapObjects 2.1 offers numerous new features, including support for

  • AutoCAD 2000 DWG and DXF files
  • ArcView StreetMap 1.1 for EDG file geocoding
  • ArcSDE 8.1 as well as SDE versioning and direct connect support
  • In-memory table joins
  • ActiveX data objects (ADO)
  • Custom symbols for chart rendering
  • Internationalization, including support for the new Hong Kong character sets and ISO Codepage conversion
  • Integration of the ArcInfo 8.1 projection engine, which provides additional projections and performance enhancements
  • Image catalogs
  • Run-time deployment utility for easier application distribution

MapObjects 2.1 also includes components for ArcIMS compatibility, allowing support for web deployments with ArcIMS middleware.

MapObjects consists of an ActiveX control with dozens of automation objects that can be plugged into standard Windows development environments such as Visual Basic, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), Visual C++, Delphi, Borland C++ Builder, Visual FoxPro, and PowerBuilder.
