In Support of Location-Based ServicesEsri, Sun Microsystems Join ForcesEsri and Sun Microsystems, Inc., have joined forces in support of a new Web site for Location Services (LS)—www.jlocationservices.com. The objective of this site is to provide useful information about real world LBS applications and technologies for the Business, consumer, and government sectors. Esri has worked with Sun Microsystems for 16 years. Location-based services are GIS applications that deliver locational information to a variety of computer network devices, particularly mobile devices, WAP phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), pagers, and other devices. The key technologies fueling this new application environment are a combination of wireless devices closely integrated with GIS server architecture and the Internet.
