Online Maps, Routes, Directions, and Location Services

RouteMAP IMS 2 Is Now Shipping

RouteMAP IMS 2, Esri's Internet mapping, routing, and location services solution, offers new data options, enhanced performance, and increased user flexibility. Since RouteMAP IMS software resides on the user's server, the user can change, edit, and serve an unlimited number of maps and routes and has total control of content and the user interface.

With RouteMAP IMS 2, users will be able to select one or all optional street data sets for the United States, Europe, and Canada. The U.S. street data, from Esri Business Partner Geographic Data Technology, Inc. (GDT), has been enhanced for better routing, displays in multiple projections, and now includes Alaska and Hawaii streets and routes. The European map data from AND performs city-to-city and latitude/longitude-to-longitude/latitude routing. Canadian street data will be provided by DMTI Spatial, Inc. Users can also choose the North American street data set for routing between the United States and Canada. The optional U.S. Business listings data pack from Dun & Bradstreet are available with the U.S. version only. The Business listings data is beneficial for visitor bureaus as well as Internet service providers (ISPs) and application service providers (ASPs) who use RouteMAP IMS 2 to offer maps and location services to their clients.

RouteMAP IMS 2 solves the traveling salesman problem by optimizing routes between multiple points. This feature will assist users in such applications as real estate home tours, visits to multiple sites by building inspectors, and many instances where routing to multiple locations is needed. "One great application we see," said Bill McNeil, software manager for RouteMAP IMS, "is within organizations where sales reps in various offices can access RouteMAP IMS on their company Intranet for directions to clients. This will save time and money."

Other new features include finding, by intersection, templates for changing the interface quickly and easily within the Internet browser, improved API for customization, addition of Spanish and German languages along with the English default, performing polygon searches using the Java applet, and a performance monitor to analyze loading characteristics of the map server. In addition, RouteMAP IMS 2 includes the ability to set the map image format to .gif, .jpg, or .png via the API and dynamic database geocoding for multiple record sets. And RouteMAP IMS 2 now reads shapefiles (.shp), Esri's open geographic file format offering easy interoperability with other Esri applications.

The pricing for RouteMAP IMS also changes at version 2. The base software will be licensed separately from the data, allowing users more flexibility and a wider range of maps they can serve on their Web sites. RouteMAP IMS software users current with their maintenance subscription will receive the version 2 upgrade free.
