ArcNews Article Submission Guidelines
Articles that do not meet all the requirements on this page will not be considered for publication.
We do not accept articles that are the product of generative artificial intelligence (AI) or similar technology, research papers, journal articles, promotional articles, press releases, or product announcements.
Share your story with ArcNews
ArcNews is a quarterly print and online publication that provides news of Esri, its products, services, users, and business partners to more than 650,000 subscribers. Many of the articles that appear in ArcNews are contributed by Esri software users, partners, and others. Contributors are not paid. An article featuring the work of your organization can benefit you professionally and raise the profile of GIS both inside and outside your organization.
ArcNews articles focus on the user, sharing real-life, solution-based stories that describe how real people and specific organizations are doing good work with Esri products and services.
Text requirements
- Articles should be 750 to 1,200 words.
- Describe a problem that needed to be solved and how specific people, departments, or companies used ArcGIS technology to solve it.
- Feature Esri products and services prominently by name, detailing how each was used.
- Report any returns on investments (ROIs), such as time, money, or effort saved.
- Articles should be understandable by a range of GIS users, from students and managers to GIS professionals.
- Explain any highly technical terms and define all acronyms.
Graphics requirements
- Include at least two graphics per article submitted.
- Choose large, high pixel count digital photographs or screenshots saved with little or no compression.
- Use JPEG, TIFF, BMP, PNG, or PSD formats (GIFs are not supported).
- Write a caption for each image that clearly describes what the image shows and how it relates to the article.
- You must own the copyright for any graphics or submit written permission for their use by Esri.
Author information
- Include the full name and current affiliation of all authors.
- Include a photograph of each author.
- Provide a one- to two-sentence biography for each author.
- Authors cannot quote themselves in the article.
Style and formatting requirements
- Write in the English language.
- Write in the third person.
- Use Microsoft Word, RTF, or plain text (no PDFs or scanned images).
- Send graphics and artwork separately rather than embedded in your document.
- If referencing a source, do so in the body of the article. Do not use footnotes.

ArcNews is released quarterly. The submission deadlines are as follows.
Review process
Articles that meet all requirements will be reviewed and considered for publication. If your article is chosen, an ArcNews editor will contact you via email. Additional information, graphics, or interviews may be requested.
