Overture Maps Data as Parquet Feature Layers (Early Access)

You may have heard the recent announcement of a new layer type released in Beta in the June 2026 ArcGIS Online release, the Parquet feature layer. This new layer is ideal for large read-only datasets such as the ones hosted by the Overture Maps Foundation. We are excited to announce several new Early Access Parquet feature layers created from Overture data using ArcGIS Data Pipelines.

The Overture Maps Foundation was founded in December 2022 by several companies with the same goal: to create reliable, user-friendly, and interoperable open map data that supports both current and future map products. Esri shares this vision and has been a member since shortly after the project was publicly announced. Overture generates monthly releases of reference datasets such as buildings, roads, POIs and more, and makes them accessible through open AWS s3 or Microsoft Azure endpoints. The data within Overture is sourced from a wide variety of open sources including OpenStreetMap, Esri Community Maps, Microsoft, Meta and many more. The size and cloud-hosted nature of Overture data makes it an ideal candidate for creating Parquet feature layers.

For our initial set of Early Access content we are sharing the following eight web maps through the Overture Parquet Layers group: addresses, railways, infrastructure points/lines/polygons, places, major cities and division areas. We expect to expand on the web maps shared through this group as development on Parquet feature layers continues.

For now, properties like symbology and popup configuration cannot be stored within the Parquet feature layer itself, therefore we recommend that you use these web maps which contain pre-configured copies of the actual Parquet layers. While there are some Beta limitations, basic functionality like filtering, labeling and modifying symbology are supported.

During this Early Access period we are very interested in hearing feedback from our users on this content so we can improve and expand on the offering.
