Third Quarter 2025 Basemap Release Includes Over 200 New and Updated Communities

By Shane Matthews

Esri Community Maps is a collaborative program that empowers organizations to improve the quality of Esri’s basemaps by contributing their authoritative, locally-sourced geographic data. These contributors – such as cities, counties, universities, and other trusted institutions – know their communities best and maintain the most accurate and up-to-date information about their local environments.

By sharing this data, they help build more precise, reliable, and context-rich maps that serve a wide range of users, from urban planners and first responders to citizens, educators, and analysts. This collaboration ensures that GIS resources reflect real-world conditions and are trusted for making decisions that impact infrastructure, public safety, sustainability, and more.

Through the Esri Community Maps program, participants contribute layers such as buildings, parcels, parks, administrative boundaries, transportation networks, and high-resolution imagery, which are seamlessly integrated into Esri’s global basemaps. This not only enhances the visual clarity and spatial accuracy of the maps but also enables a higher level of data consistency and interoperability across systems and agencies.

Esri Community Maps helps foster a more connected and informed GIS community, where shared data fuels smarter maps, stronger decision-making, and increased collaboration at all levels. These maps become a trusted foundation for public services, policy development, emergency management, and community engagement.

In the third quarter of 2025, the Esri Community Maps team published updates and new contributions from more than 200 communities worldwide, showcasing the continued momentum and global impact of this collaborative effort. Each contribution strengthens the shared basemap and extends the reach and value of authoritative data for everyone who relies on geographic information.
