The latest third quarter Esri Community Maps basemap release represents another important step in making the world’s maps more current, detailed, and authoritative.

More than 195 organizations contributed geographic information that is helping improve the representation of communities around the world. From local governments and regional agencies to colleges, universities, and other organizations that maintain authoritative geographic data, these contributors are sharing the information they know best—the geography of their own communities.

Their contributions are helping bring new and updated information into Esri basemaps used every day by people and organizations around the world.

The People Who Know the Place Best

Every community contains geographic knowledge that cannot always be captured by broad, generalized data sources.

Local organizations know where roads have changed, which buildings are new, how addresses are organized, where parks and trails are located, and how their communities are evolving. When that knowledge is shared through the Esri Community Maps Program, it can become part of a larger geographic foundation that benefits map users far beyond the community where the data originated.

Authoritative contributions help strengthen the maps that support government, public safety, utilities, education, business, environmental management, and many other industries.

A single update may represent a local change—but incorporated into a global basemap, that local knowledge can have an impact well beyond its original purpose.
