As ArcGIS continues to evolve, we regularly evaluate features to ensure we provide the most effective, modern tools for our users. As part of this effort, we are announcing the deprecation of the Branch Version Management widget in ArcGIS Experience Builder.
The Branch Version Management widget, which enables users to manage versions in branch versioned feature services—including switching versions, editing version properties, and performing management tasks such as create, assign, and delete—will be deprecated and retired on the following timeline:
Deprecated:
- ArcGIS Enterprise 12.1 on May 21, 2026
- ArcGIS Online June 2026 update
- ArcGIS Experience Builder Developer Edition 1.21
Retired:
- ArcGIS Enterprise 12.2
- ArcGIS Online October 2026 update
- ArcGIS Experience Builder Developer Edition 1.22
Why this change?
This deprecation reflects a shift toward a more robust and unified experience for managing branch versioned data.
For ArcGIS Enterprise and the Developer Edition, a new widget—the Branch Version Editing widget—provides full functional parity with additional capabilities, offering an improved and more streamlined workflow for version management.
For ArcGIS Online, branch versioning is not supported for hosted feature services, and usage of this widget has been limited. Due to these factors, along with licensing requirements, a replacement will not be provided.
What does this mean for you?
ArcGIS Enterprise & Developer Edition
Starting with ArcGIS Enterprise 12.1 and Developer Edition 1.21:
- The Branch Version Management widget still works in existing applications. A deprecation notice is displayed in the widget.
- You should migrate your apps to use the new Branch Version Editing widget.
- The Branch Version Management widget can no longer be added to new applications.
After upgrading to Enterprise 12.2 or Developer Edition 1.22, the Branch Version Management widget will no longer function in existing apps.
ArcGIS Online
Beginning in June 2026:
- You should remove the Branch Version Management widget from existing apps.
With the Q4 2026 update:
- The widget will be fully retired and will not be replaced.
If your workflows depend on branch versioning, transition them to ArcGIS Enterprise 12.1 or Developer Edition 1.21, where this capability is fully supported.

We understand that changes like this require planning, and we are committed to supporting you through this transition. The new Branch Version Editing widget ensures you can continue managing branch versioned data with enhanced functionality and long-term support.
