We are excited to share that a new, next-generation version of ArcGIS Survey123 is in development! This update promises a wealth of new features, an enhanced user experience, and cutting-edge technology, all aimed at making your data collection processes more efficient and effective than ever before.
The New Survey123 Mobile App
The new ArcGIS Survey123 is being built using the latest ArcGIS Maps SDK for .NET. This modern framework allows us to deliver improved mapping capabilities, better performance, and enhanced stability across multiple platforms, including iOS, Android, and Windows. The transition to this new technology ensures that the app will be compatible with the latest devices and operating systems, providing a seamless experience for all users.

A New but Familiar User Experience
One of the key goals of the new ArcGIS Survey123 is to provide a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. We have revamped the first-time user experience to make it easier for new users to get started with a streamlined onboarding process. The new design incorporates Esri’s Calcite Design System to bring a clean and contemporary look and feel to the app. Additionally, we have focused on better supporting accessibility tools such as light and dark display modes, screen readers and keyboard navigation, ensuring that the app is usable by a wider audience.
We have worked hard to maintain backwards compatibility with the Survey123 product suite, so you can rest assured the forms you’ve built in Survey123 Connect and the Survey123 web designer will continue to function seamlessly in the new app.

The Path Forward for New Features
The next-generation ArcGIS Survey123 will introduce several exciting new features designed to enhance your data collection workflows.
The integration of the ArcGIS Maps SDK for .NET brings the same core mapping libraries that power other mobile apps such as ArcGIS Field Maps and ArcGIS Earth. Because of this, Survey123 users will benefit from improved mapping functionalities, including support for webmaps, bookmarks, layer controls, popup support, and more. We will also be bringing support for Indoor Positioning Service (IPS), geofences, and on device coordinate transformation.
This new app also paves the way to bring new capabilities around AI-powered data capture and overall user improvements when working with complex question elements.

Future Retirement of the Current 3.x Version
As we are preparing to launch the next-generation ArcGIS Survey123, we want to inform our customers about the deprecation and future retirement of the current 3.x version of the Survey123 mobile app.
The current generation 3.x mobile app for ArcGIS Survey123 (iOS, Android, Windows) will be deprecated and eventually retired. During the deprecation phase, the current mobile app will remain a supported application, ensuring that users continue to receive necessary support and updates. However, we encourage all users to start planning for the transition to the new app.
The initial release of the new Survey123 app will include most commonly used features but will not achieve 100% feature parity with the current app. Both the new Survey123 app and the current (classic) Survey123 apps will be available for download during the transition period as we migrate features to the new app in subsequent releases.
To facilitate a smooth transition, we recommend the following steps:
- Participate in Preview/Beta Testing: As soon as the preview or beta releases are available for the next-generation Survey123 mobile app, test your existing forms and workflows to check compatibility and identify any gaps .
- Migrate to the New App Promptly: When the next-generation mobile application is released in 2026, migrate to the new app and test your forms and workflows to ensure they function as expected.
- Conduct Thorough Testing: When implementing an operating system update, upgrade one device initially to ensure that the software, including Survey123, functions correctly before proceeding with the OS upgrade on all devices.
