We are excited to announce the latest updates to ArcGIS Survey123 Web for May 2025! This release brings several new features and enhancements designed to improve your form creation and data collection experience when working with the Survey123 web and and web designer . Here’s what’s new:
- HTML Source Editor in the Rich Text Editor
- Access Subscriber Content from the ArcGIS Living Atlas
- New AI Feature for Extracting Information from Images
- Other enhancements and bug fixes
HTML Source Editor in the Rich Text Editor
The rich text editor in ArcGIS Survey123 Web now includes an HTML source editor mode. This allows you to directly edit the HTML code when you include a note (text element) in your form, giving you greater control over the formatting and presentation of your surveys. HTML source editor mode provides more flexibility when working with text and embedded media helping you fine-tune the layout of your form.

Access Subscriber Content from the ArcGIS Living Atlas
The ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World is a collection of ready-to-use geographic content, including maps, apps, and data layers, curated by Esri to support geographic analysis and enhance GIS workflows. Much of the content found in the Living Atlas is public and ready-to-use in maps and apps with no restrictions; but “Subscriber” content is not publicly available and requires user authentication (ArcGIS account). New with this release of Survey123, is support for Living Atlas Subscriber content when defining the calculation of a question or populating choice items in a drop-down list. This integration allows you to leverage a wider selection of rich and diverse data layers available in the Living Atlas. NOTE: Because you need to be signed in with an ArcGIS account, you cannot use Subscriber content with surveys shared with the public (anonymous users).
The screenshots below show an example of how to use a calculation to pull soil information into a form question using data from a Living Atlas Subscriber content feature layer (US Soils Map Units).

New AI Feature for Extracting Information from Images (BETA)
As part of our ongoing commitment to innovation, we are introducing a new feature for extracting information from images using AI and natural language prompts. This cutting-edge computer vision capability is now live on our production website, currently available as a beta feature on the Survey123 web app. With this capability, you can upload images to your surveys and use natural language queries to extract relevant information. For example, you can ask the AI to identify objects, read text, or analyze patterns in the images. This powerful feature can save you time and effort by automating the extraction of information from visual data.
