Deprecation Notice for ArcGIS Workforce

By Liz Armstrong

ArcGIS Workforce is scheduled for retirement in late 2026. Please see theĀ deprecation notice.

  • ArcGIS Online, Q4 2026 update
  • ArcGIS Enterprise 12.2, Q4 2026 release

During the deprecation period leading up to retirement, ArcGIS Workforce will remain available and supported but will not receive any new enhancements. Upon retirement, technical support will be discontinued, and Workforce will no longer be available as a supported product.

Why is Workforce being retired?

Workforce is being replaced by the new Tasks capability in ArcGIS Field Maps, which was introduced in Field Maps’ Sept 2025 release. Tasks provides a more flexible, integrated, and modern approach to coordinating work, bringing assignment management directly into the same app field workers already use for maps, data capture, inspections, and navigation.

By replacing Workforce with Tasks, organizations can simplify and tailor their mobile workflows while gaining deeper integration across the ArcGIS platform.

Important details about retirement

ArcGIS Workforce consists of two interdependent components:

  • A web app – used to create, manage, and assign work in the mobile app
  • A mobile app – used by field workers to view and complete assignments

These two components must be used together. The Workforce mobile app cannot be configured without access to the Workforce web app.

What happens at retirement?

Upon the retirement dates the Workforce web app will no longer be available for customers to access:

  • Removed from the ArcGIS Online app switcher with the Q4 2026 update
  • Removed from ArcGIS Enterprise with version 12.2*

Because the web and mobile apps work together, customers must migrate to Tasks in ArcGIS Field Maps before the retirement dates to avoid operational disruption

The Workforce mobile app will not immediately stop working on devices where it is already installed; however, it will be retired and unsupported, and cannot be managed without the Workforce web app.

*While the Workforce web app will be removed from ArcGIS Enterprise 12.2, it will remain available in earlier Enterprise versions, though retired and unsupported.

Workforce Mobile App Availability After Retirement

Although ArcGIS Workforce is being retired in 2026, the Workforce mobile app will remain available in the app stores until October 2027.

This extended availability is intended to support Enterprise customer transition timelines only. During this period:

  • The app will be retired and unsupported
  • No updates, bug fixes, or compatibility improvements will be provided
  • Continued functionality is not guaranteed

While customers running earlier versions of ArcGIS Enterprise may continue to use Workforce in a retired state, it will be unsupported and customers are encouraged to migrate as soon as possible.

Known limitations on Android devices

ArcGIS Workforce is not supported on newer versions of Android. Due to Google Play Store requirements, the Workforce mobile app is no longer available for download on newer Android devices.

Existing installations may continue to function, but compatibility cannot be guaranteed.

For details, see this support article.

Required customer action

Customers currently using ArcGIS Workforce should begin migrating to Tasks in ArcGIS Field Maps as soon as possible.

Migrating before the Workforce retirement dates ensures:

  • Continued access to supported tools
  • Compatibility with current and future mobile platforms
  • A smoother transition for both office and field teams

Migrate from Workforce to tasks in ArcGIS Field Maps help

To help customers transition from ArcGIS Workforce, we have published a technical guide: Migrate from Workforce to tasks in ArcGIS Field Maps.

Workforce migration guide
Migrate from Workforce to tasks in Field Maps

This guide is intended for customers who want to configure their new tasks workflows in alignment with their current Workforce projects.

The guide also includes access to Python scripts that help automate the transition of data from existing Workforce projects into a task layer that can be used in ArcGIS Field Maps, making it easier to get started with tasks while preserving existing work and historical data.

The Tasks capability offers significantly greater flexibility than Workforce and can be tailored to support a wide range of field coordination workflows. Customers are encouraged to explore the possibilities during transition and take advantage of the added configurability, integration, and extensibility that the Tasks capability provides.

Note:

The previous version of ArcGIS Workforce, “Workforce for ArcGIS”, was retired on December 31, 2021 and is no longer supported.
