What is ArcGIS Urban?

ArcGIS Urban is a web-based 3D experience designed to improve urban planning and decision-making. Quickly visualize projects in your local context and leverage location intelligence to drive better decisions. Be more proactive and less reactive in your planning process. Simplify project collaboration across internal agencies and public stakeholders.

Create specific area plans

Planners use connected workflows that easily create, manage, and edit zoning constraints for development or redevelopment scenarios. While the planner is adjusting height, setbacks, and more, on the digital rendering, a synchronized indicator tool is instantly calculating the proposed project's impacts on population, jobs, housing, building space use, walkability, and more. This optimizes planning decisions along with environmental, public health, fiscal, and livability challenges facing the communities that architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) companies serve.

Track building development and infrastructure

ArcGIS Urban provides an overview of every development project citywide. Users can see where projects are, distinguish them by size or type, view start and end dates, and check their status. By seeing all projects across the city in a single view, urban planners and developers can better coordinate their activities.

Manage zoning changes

Working in the browser, planners use simple editing tools to modify zoning constraints. ArcGIS Urban analyzes zoning proposals, such as rezoning and zoning variances that ultimately affect a city's housing shortage, economic development, or mobility patterns. These tools support a wholistic approach for AEC companies who offer planning as a service or work on behalf of a local community.

Conduct buildable land analysis

Buildable land supply and demand analyses are based on population change, economic growth, current zoning codes, and other factors. Authoritative data about these factors is available from ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World, an open data geospatial search engine. By bringing this data into the planning project map, cities can evaluate where they have capacity to accommodate population growth and consider housing development proposals.

Perform development or design review

Assess proposed planning scenarios by evaluating and comparing key performance indicators of economic, social, environmental, and spatial use. For example, when reviewing alternate designs, planners can measure each one's ability to increase housing or jobs. Data plus quantitative analysis plus spatial analysis equals a more informed approach to plan review.

Transform Urban Planning and Design

Encourage collaboration with community stakeholders and help all groups work towards a more sustainable future.
