Organizations Around the World Use Server Technology for Web Mapping

Cranfield University—National Soil Resources Institute

Soilscapes Viewer allows users to view and map the soils of England and Wales, searching by U.K. postcode or coordinates to see the conditions at any point. An interactive legend allows users to click on a color represented in the map and learn more about that soil type including drainage, texture, landcover, and habitats. Soils are identified with descriptive labels such as "freely draining, slightly acid but base-rich soils."

The Kolkata Golden Mapping Service allows users to see a detailed map of Kolkata, India. They can search through 10 categories of information: buildings; streets; transport; public facilities, such as libraries and temples; health; education; entertainment; financial institutes; tourist, such as places of tourist interest and information centers; and emergency. The site has options for creating buffer zones and measuring.

MapConnect is an interactive online mapping service that allows users to preview and download the Australian National GEODATA TOPO 250K Series 3 data. On this site, users will find a gazetteer search, map markup tools, the ability to save a session, and free data downloads.
