Redlands, CaliforniaDr. Larry Burgess, historian and director of the A.K. Smiley Public Library, will present an illustrated lecture on the Redlands Lincoln Memorial Shrine. It will showcase how the shrine's exhibits, lectures, tours, and conferences present the American Civil War's origins and consequences. This unique event will be held in Redlands, California, at the Esri Conference Center, 380 New York Street, on February 3, 2011, at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free.
The Civil War remains the deadliest conflict in American history, resulting in the loss of 620,000 soldiers and an undetermined number of civilian casualties. Yet the social, political, and racial issues of the war are both profound and unique in American history. Burgess's presentation will shed light on many of the complexities of secession, slavery, economics, culture, reunion, and more.
Redlands Forum presentations are sponsored by Esri and the University of Redlands through the university's Town & Gown organization. To learn more about upcoming Redlands Forum events and speakers, visit esri.com/redlandsforum or call 909-748-8011.
