Redlands, CaliforniaThe January Redlands Forum features Jack H. Brown, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Stater Bros. Markets. Brown will discuss the future of the consumer grocery-buying experience and share the history of Stater Bros. Markets, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2011. The forum will be held in Redlands, California, at the Esri Conference Center, 380 New York Street, on January 11 at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Brown is a supermarket industry icon and a community hero. He has spent nearly 60 years in the supermarket industry and been at the helm of the Stater Bros. chain for 30 years.
He has been recognized by universities, civic organizations, and charities for his immense contributions to society. Among the most prominent of these recognitions was his nomination to receive the 1992 Horatio Alger Award, which is awarded to dedicated community leaders. In 2005, he received the Sidney R. Rabb Award, the supermarket industry's highest award. He has been given honorary doctorates from California State University, San Bernardino (2005); Loma Linda University’s School of Medicine (2006); and the University of Redlands (2007).
Stater Bros. is Southern California's largest privately owned, locally operated supermarket chain. The company recently reported annual sales in excess of $3.6 billion. With 18,000 employees, it currently operates 167 supermarkets in six Southern California counties from its corporate offices and distribution center located in San Bernardino.
