AUDIAR, the Urban Planning and Intermunicipal Development Agency of the Rennes metropolitan area, commissioned arx iT to develop an innovative geospatial approach for mapping and assessing parking capacity across the urban area. arx iT applied GeoAI and Machine Learning techniques to aerial imagery to automatically identify and inventory on-street parking spaces. This AI-assisted approach transforms large volumes of imagery into structured geospatial information, significantly supporting the creation of a comprehensive and reliable parking inventory. The results were enriched and consolidated with additional available geospatial data sources to build a comprehensive view of parking supply. The resulting information was integrated into a synthetic GIS dashboard, providing urban planners with an intuitive tool to visualize, analyze and understand parking capacity across the territory. By combining aerial imagery, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, GIS and geospatial data integration, the project demonstrates how GeoAI can automate complex spatial-data production processes and generate actionable information for urban planning and decision-making. This project demonstrates arx iT’s expertise in GeoAI, Geospatial Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, aerial imagery analysis, automated feature extraction, geospatial data engineering, spatial analysis and the development of innovative GIS solutions for Smart Cities and urban planning.
