Eastern European industries operate in a global context. Tourism, international business, and rapid development of all kinds are creating the need for increased data management. GIS helps maintain information and provide infrastructures that enable countries to plan for future projects and policies.

Countries with major ports use GIS to monitor entrance passages, organize inventory, and plan for future expansions based on needs. Transportation industries rely on GIS to establish routes, maintain roads, ensure the fluid function of current systems, and identify problem areas in need of future development. Fuel and energy industries use the technology to remain closely connected to other businesses throughout the region as well as with the customers they serve. They rely on detailed databases to manage reliable data to conduct market analysis and perform planning strategies.
