Beijing Cadastral Investigation and Land Registration Office selected Esri China (Beijing) Ltd., Esri's distributor in mainland China, to provide the GIS component for the city's cadastral information management system.

The system will be deployed in the 18 districts of Beijing and includes Esri's ArcSDE and MapObjects software in each district installation. It makes use of GIS, relational database management system (DBMS), and network technologies and adopts a three-tier architecture to facilitate cadastral registration, querying, statistic, daily updating, and mapping capabilities.

The system provides extensive functionality including the ability to create a database for surveying and property investigation, parcel certification, daily updates and reporting of data, work flow maintenance of daily business transactions, and data import and export.

According to Mike Hu of Esri China (Beijing), the Beijing installation is a land/facilities management-style cadastre. "The city government is planning a project called Digital Beijing, which will allow the various government departments to share data, and the cadastre data will be one of the data sources available," Hu says.
