DHL Express in Sweden Makes Faster Deliveries

Streamline Parcel Handling with GIS

In 2001, DHL Express in Sweden, one of the world's largest shippers, analyzed terminal processes and discovered that the most time-consuming process was the sorting and loading of goods. The company concluded that if the goods could be automatically sorted and packed based on the day's driving schedule, the drivers' morning routines could be sped up and the vehicles would be able to spend more time on the road. A solution was developed with ArcGIS Server software that supplies location information to the terminal workers via wireless handheld devices. (See the complete article on page 16.)
