Journalist Rich Jaroslovsky to Discuss the Digital Media Revolution

Redlands Forum Speaker Asks Whether Faster, Digital News Means Better News

October 14, 2010

Rich Jaroslovsky

Redlands, California—How Americans get their news and read their book is changing rapidly, thanks to the digital revolution.

Rich Jaroslovsky, technology and digital media columnist for Bloomberg News and Bloomberg Businessweek, will be the guest speaker at this Friday's Redlands Forum, where he will talk about what digital delivery of information—whether via the Internet, smartphones, or other electronic devices— means to media companies and citizens. The forum will be held in Redlands, California, at the Esri Conference Center, 380 New York Street, on October 15 at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free.

"The pace of transformation of media is as disorienting as it is stunning," Jaroslovsky says. "It's almost as if we went from the horse and buggy to putting a man on the moon in the space of a year. But it's by no means clear yet whether more information, delivered faster, in a more personalized manner, and more accessibly, is actually making us better informed."

A pioneer in bringing news online, Jaroslovsky was named in 1994 as the first managing editor of the Wall Street Journal Online. He helped plan and launch the electronic edition and directed and organized its news operations.

Jaroslovsky also founded the Online News Association, an organization dedicated to promoting excellence in digital journalism, and served as its first president. He joined Bloomberg News in 2004, where he was the executive editor in charge of worldwide coverage of government, political, and economic news. The Stanford University graduate also served as the White House correspondent for the Wall Street Journal in the early 1980s, winning the Aldo Beckman Memorial Award from the White House Correspondents' Association for his coverage of the Reagan administration.

Redlands Forum presentations are sponsored by Esri and the University of Redlands through the university's Town & Gown organization. To learn more about upcoming Redlands Forum events and speakers, visit esri.com/redlandsforum or call 909-748-8011
