Hi there, ArcGIS Blog reader!
ArcGIS Enterprise is the foundational software system for GIS. It provides a secure environment for sharing and accessing ArcGIS apps, services, and data. It also integrates with other business systems to support broader workflows. At the same time, it meets rigorous IT hardware and software best practices.
For many IT and GIS professionals, learning ArcGIS Enterprise can feel both relatable and new at the same time. The mixing of multiple disciplines introduces new concepts and learning curves. Deploying and managing an enterprise GIS system can present new challenges to an organization. During our time teaching ArcGIS Enterprise courses, we’ve heard about these challenges and common misunderstandings from learners.
For some time now, my colleague Travis Ormsby, of Getting to Know ArcGIS Enterprise fame, and I have discussed these issues. We’ve worked to capture the results those conversations in a series of blog articles. In these articles, we rely on non-technical analogies to help clarify common misconceptions and misunderstood aspects of ArcGIS Enterprise.
This post serves as a bit of self-promotion for that series. You can start with the lead article, The Travii Try to Help You Understand ArcGIS Enterprise, which links to the others. The articles are also available on the Esri Training Matters blog.
We hope you find these articles useful and entertaining. Let us know what ArcGIS Enterprise topics you want to explore next. We’ll aim to cover those topics in future articles.
