The Maplex for ArcGIS extension provides extensive text placement options for ArcGIS users.

Automated text placement and conflict resolution can now be done entirely in ArcGIS using Maplex for ArcGIS.

Maplex for ArcGIS uses the Maplex text placement engine to produce high-quality automated labeling for digital and hard-copy maps. Maplex for ArcGIS takes feature and text attributes from the ArcMap application within ArcGIS and allows the user to control text placement by providing new dialog boxes for entering numerous label placement options. ArcGIS users with ArcMap can license Maplex for ArcGIS in addition to the standard labeling engine that comes with ArcGIS. Maplex for ArcGIS also includes a Style Manager that allows users to save a set of rules to use as a template for many maps. Maplex for ArcGIS is scheduled for release in 2003.
