Deprecation of ArcGIS Hub classic edit mode: Transition to Hub workspaces

By Jill Saligoe-Simmel and Maria Jordan

Announcing the deprecation of classic edit mode

ArcGIS Hub classic edit mode will retire in June 2026. This deprecation impacts ArcGIS Hub users who have opted out of workspaces. Customers already using workspaces will not notice the change. If you’re a Hub user who has opted out of workspaces, continue reading to learn more about upcoming changes.

ArcGIS Hub, ArcGIS Hub Premium, and ArcGIS Enterprise Sites supported classic edit mode for Hub management. Workspaces became the default experience in June 2025. Classic edit mode is replaced by workspaces—the improved management experience in Hub. Workspaces modernizes and streamlines the Hub management experience and adds value through new functionality.

Below are details of the deprecation, which may be subject to change:

  • ArcGIS Online – The ArcGIS Hub June 2026 release is the last version to include classic edit mode, replaced by workspaces.
  • ArcGIS Enterprise – Enterprise Sites 11.5 is the last version to include classic edit mode. It is replaced by workspaces in Enterprise 12.0. Refer to the ArcGIS Enterprise product lifecycle.

Upon retirement, users who have previously opted out of workspaces will be automatically opted in and classic edit mode will no longer be available.

What is the recommended transition and next step?

Transition to Hub workspaces

Opt-in to workspaces and start using it today.

  • A site’s connected pages, previously managed through Hub database connections, are now connected to sites through standard group sharing when the page item is shared with groups in the site catalog. Page migration is recommended for previously configured site-page connections, though the classic database connections will continue to be supported until further notice. Learn more
  • Migrate to using events in workspaces. Events previously created in classic edit mode do not work in workspaces and can no longer be accessed. In the layout editor, the classic featured event card and classic upcoming events card are removed. Use the new gallery card for adding events created in workspaces to the page layout.
  • It is recommended to upgrade your catalog to unlock advanced functionality, such as new catalog configurability.
