Announcing the deprecation of classic edit mode
ArcGIS Hub classic edit mode will retire in June 2026. This deprecation impacts ArcGIS Hub users who have opted out of workspaces. Customers already using workspaces will not notice the change. If you’re a Hub user who has opted out of workspaces, continue reading to learn more about details of the deprecation, which may be subject to change.
ArcGIS Hub, ArcGIS Hub Premium, and ArcGIS Enterprise Sites supported classic edit mode for Hub management. The Hub workspace became the default experience in June 2025 and now replaces classic edit mode as the modern management experience.
What is changing?
At the ArcGIS Hub June 2026 release, classic edit mode will no longer be available and will be replaced by workspaces. ArcGIS Enterprise Sites 11.5 is the last version to include classic edit mode and is replaced by workspaces in Enterprise 12.0. Refer to the ArcGIS Enterprise product lifecycle.
Users who previously opted out of workspaces will be automatically opted in. The Hub workspace modernizes and streamlines the management experience, with improved performance, usability, and new capabilities.
As part of this transition, several workflows and concepts from classic edit mode have been updated:
- Other content creation now happens in ArcGIS Online — Upload content or create applications—such as publishing data layers or adding files—directly in ArcGIS Online. The classic content library dialog is no longer used. Hub-specific content (sites, pages, projects, discussions, and events) continues to be created in the Hub workspace.
- Teams are now groups — Teams are now called Groups to align with ArcGIS terminology. Collaboration and communication workflows remain the same, using ArcGIS Online groups.
- Survey design is managed in ArcGIS Survey123 — Surveys are now created and designed directly in ArcGIS Survey123. Map-focused survey design is no longer available in the Hub workspace. Existing embedded surveys continue to work with no action required.
Key workflow changes to review
- Pages and site connections
Pages are now connected to sites through standard group sharing. When a page is shared with groups included in a site’s catalog, it is associated with that site. Migration is recommended for previously configured site–page connections. Classic database connections will continue to be supported until further notice. Learn more - Events
Events created in classic edit mode do not carry forward and can no longer be accessed in the workspace. Create and manage events in the workspace, and use the gallery card to display them in layouts. Classic event cards (featured and upcoming) are removed. - Content sharing
It is recommended to upgrade your catalog to unlock advanced functionality, including enhanced configurability and organization.
Recommended next steps
- Begin working in the Hub workspace today.
- Continue managing Hub content (sites, pages, projects, discussions, and events) in the workspace.
- Review page connections, events, and catalog configuration.
