Notification that old Esri Raster Basemaps will be retired: ESRI_Imagery_World_2D and ESRI_StreetMap_World_2D

Esri will be retiring two very old raster basemaps on May 4, 2022.  If you are using one of these basemaps, you should switch to the equivalent basemap in general availability.  Once the basemaps are retired, they will no longer be available to use in maps and apps.

The “2D” basemaps were placed in mature support in 2016 and have not been updated since.  The replacement basemaps are updated regularly and have more worldwide coverage.

ArcGIS Online users:

If you are the owner of a web map in ArcGIS Online, the easiest way to migrate to the newer version is to copy the URL listed below and add the basemap in the Map Viewer using the Add tile layer option.  If you are unsure what basemap you are using in your web map, you can go to the item details page for the web map and look for the basemap in the Layers list.

ArcGIS Pro users:

Migrate to the newer version by copying the URL listed above in the ArcGIS Online section, and use Add data from a path.

ArcMap users:

Migrate to the newer version copying one of the URLs below and add to ArcMap.

Developers:

You need to reference the REST endpoints listed above in the ArcGIS Online section.
