What’s New in Scene Viewer (June 2025)

By Jasmine Du and Cliff Song

We’re excited to share that the latest Scene Viewer release for 2025 is here! This update brings a range of new features and enhancements that make it easier than ever to communicate your projects and streamline 3D Tiles workflows. You’ll be able to explore these updates directly in Scene Viewer through ArcGIS Online.

Present Scenes with Greater Focus and Context

Navigating complex 3D scenes can be challenging. Scene Viewer’s Presentation Mode simplifies the experience by providing slides that highlight specific viewpoints within a scene. These slides contain only the necessary information and tools, allowing you to focus on the visual narrative. The interface is clean and free of distractions, emphasizing key content and helping you understand spatial concepts. Presentation Mode is continuously being improved, and our latest updates include Focus Areas, Slice, and Pop-up.

Focus Areas

Direct your audience’s attention precisely where it is required within your 3D scene—be it a new building, a development zone, or an area under review. The newly introduced Focus Areas feature allows you to effectively highlight your projects while de-emphasizing surrounding elements. This tool provides a powerful method to draw attention to critical components and foster alignment. Additionally, these Focus Areas can be shared through slides and in Presentation Mode.

Slice and Pop-ups

You can now create slides that include Slice views and pop-ups and share them with viewers in Presentation Mode. These new features enable viewers to explore different perspectives and access detailed information about project elements without needing additional tools. For example, viewers can seamlessly view underground features and building interiors through 3D Slice viewpoints and review detailed information about features such as buildings or bridges using data tables, charts, and attachments in pop-ups.

Open in Presentation Mode

3D scenes can be shared through a link that opens in Presentation Mode, which offers a clean interface focused on content with minimal distractions. This feature allows you to easily access, view, explore, and understand spatial ideas. Presentations are accessible on both mobile phones and desktop devices. Additionally, presentations can be embedded on websites for broader sharing. This helps facilitate communication with stakeholders, enhancing collaboration and supporting more informed decisions.

3D Tiles Enhancements

Esri’s commitment to OGC standards ensures seamless interaction with geospatial data like 3D Tiles. The latest updates allow for smooth integration of detailed 3D models and other rich datasets, improving accuracy and efficiency.

Add layers using a URL

Integrate 3D Tiles, such as photorealistic city models, directly into Scene Viewer using a URL. This method streamlines workflows and saves time for GIS analysts and developers across industries such as architecture, engineering, and construction by eliminating the need to upload or host data on ArcGIS Online.

Integrated mesh modification

Modify 3D Tiles layers in Scene Viewer by cutting holes or flattening areas. This allows urban planners and engineers to seamlessly integrate 3D models of proposed buildings or infrastructure into existing layers. You can present projects to stakeholders as a realistic interactive 3D scene, improving collaboration and understanding. This update brings simple editing capabilities for Indexed 3D Scene Layer (I3S) and 3D Tiles into alignment, providing you with more options to analyze and explore 3D data.
