Demographic Map Layers Retiring December 2026

Esri continually reviews its online content to ensure customers have access to current and well-supported data. As data delivery methods evolve, older content may be moved through the product life cycle and eventually retired.

Beginning December 1, 2026, Esri will retire a collection of legacy demographic map layers in ArcGIS Online. The services supporting these layers will be completely shut off by the end of December 2026.

Once the supporting services are shut off, the retiring layers will no longer display or function in any maps, applications, dashboards, and other workflows that leverage these layers. Users should prepare for this retirement and consider using more up to date data. Explore current demographic data here.

Which layers are retiring?

Map layers that were previously available as premium demographic content were moved to mature support in November 2025 and will be fully retired this December.

How to tell if an item is retiring?

Esri uses categories to communicate the life cycle status of content published through Esri organizations. Items may be categorized as Beta, General Availability, Mature Support or Retiring.  An item scheduled for retirement may include:

• A retirement notice in its description

How does this change affect your workflows?

After the supporting services are turned off:

• Retired layers will no longer appear in web maps.
• Map applications, dashboards and analyses that reference the layers may display incomplete content or errors.
• Copies of web maps or applications may still contain a reference to the retired service. Please note copying the item does not create a copy of its underlying data.

This impact also applies to content referenced through the ArcGIS Enterprise portal. After the supporting ArcGIS Online services are turned off, the layers will no longer be accessible, even if the items appear in search results.

What should you do?

We recommend reviewing the group of retiring demographic map layers to identify items used in your maps, apps, and workflows. Check each item’s description details and consider current demographic data through ArcGIS Business Analyst Web App, the ArcGIS GeoEnrichment service, or data files available in the Esri Store.
