Build Smarter Applications with ArcGIS Location Services

By Elizabeth Ole

In addition to development expertise, developers require two essential components when building location-intelligent applications and solutions:

  • High-quality geospatial data
  • Location services that support the introduction of new functionalities within those apps

With each release, the ArcGIS Location Services team introduces feature enhancements and more accurate data to improve outcomes for developers building mapping applications.

This October, the progress continues, ultimately ensuring that end-users have a more seamless experience with smarter applications and solutions.

Here’s a look at what’s new with the most recent release:

  • ArcGIS Places service: POI Data Updates
  • ArcGIS GeoEnrichment service: Demographic Data Updates
  • ArcGIS Geocoding service: Address Improvements and API and Service Output Updates

ArcGIS Places Service: POI Data Updates

The ArcGIS Places service provides developers with access to points of interest (POI) data, which is crucial for end-users navigating their surroundings. POI data supports several other use cases, from getting adequate information about buildings or businesses, to planning and site selection; having up-to-date place information is essential for any kind of location-based decision-making.

With this release, the POI data has been refreshed to the August 2025 supplier vintage, ensuring a more accurate depiction of places worldwide.

ArcGIS GeoEnrichment Service: Demographic Data Updates

Developers leverage the ArcGIS GeoEnrichment service to perform data enrichment while building applications and solutions. The data enrichment process involves finding demographic data and local facts for locations around the world.

Demographic data supports analysis and decision making for end-users of apps and solutions. Three times annually, data accessed through the GeoEnrichment service is updated, providing users of the service access to the most current data.

Here’s a look at some of the demographic data updates available with this release:

  • Global data updates for countries and territories in North America and Africa: Standard demographic data has been updated to the 2025 vintage for 26 countries and territories in North America, and 46 countries and territories in Africa. For a full list of countries, please see here.
  • Advanced demographic data for France: Advanced Demographics available for France, has been updated to the 2025 supplier vintage.
  • Traffic count data for the U.S: Important for traffic management and business location decisions, traffic count data includes historical data on the number of vehicles passing a specific point over a given period. The data has been updated to the 2025 Q3 supplier vintage.
  • Esri Business Summary data: Esri US Business Summary data has been updated to August 2025 supplier vintage. Please be reminded that in early 2026, Esri will discontinue support for the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Codes used in the United States Business Summary datasets, accessible through the GeoEnrichment service. North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Codes will continue to be supported. For more information, please refer to the deprecation notice.
  • Demographics, consumer segmentation data, business summary data, and more for Canada:  This release includes an update to the data from a 2024 to 2025 supplier vintage. Other highlights include several new variables and the addition of updated business summary data.
