What’s New with the ArcGIS Geocoding Service? Explore September 2026 Updates

With the most recent updates to the ArcGIS Geocoding service, we’re excited to offer new capabilities and expand the content available in the service output.

Quality improvements

• We’ve increased the record count of point address in seven countries to provide more rooftop level matches. More records = more matches!
  • Bulgaria +100%
  • Denmark +3.3%
  • Finland +2.4%
  • Germany +0.2%
  • Netherlands +2.3%
  • New Zealand +6.4%
  • Romania +6.6%
• Two countries have made important change to the names of administrative features.
  • South Korea
    • Jeollanam-do and Gwangju regions have been merged into a new region named Jeonnam-Gwangju.
    • The subdivisions of Incheon region
      • Added a new subdivision named Geomdan-gu
      • Seo-gu renamed to Seohae-gu
  • Nauru
    • The official country name has changed to Naoero.
    • The country code has changed from NRU to NRO.

API and service output changes

• A new API parameter, matchIDFormat , is now supported for findAddressCandidates and geocodeAddresses requests
  • Allows you to request a shorter form of the matchID output field
  • This results in file size savings!
• A new section named parameters has been added to the service description
  • (https://geocode.arcgis.com/arcgis/rest/services/World/GeocodeServer?f=pjson)
  • Quickly obtain information about the REST API parameters supported by the ArcGIS geocoding service

• • This is a handy resource for developers

• Match Narrative support added for 13 more nations:
  • Andorra, Greenland, Indonesia, Japan, Israel, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, San Marino, Serbia, Suriname, Thailand, and Türkiye
  • There are now 53 countries in total
