Well, it’s that time of year again, when public works professionals from all over assemble at the largest public works conference in North America, the American Public Works Association’s (APWA) Public Works Expo (PWX), this year in Chicago, Illinois. For the Public Works Industry team at Esri, this is our foundational event for the year, and we commit significant resources to PWX to maximize opportunities for us to educate attendees on the latest technologies and trends that can help them better achieve their missions. As we have for decades, Esri will present and exhibit at PWX.

This year our message is all about how ArcGIS, the world’s leading GIS mapping software, powers next-generation public works. Public Works is a location-based business and ArcGIS is the mission-critical, enterprise IT business platform designed to turn location data into insight powering better decision making and delivering significant business value. ArcGIS supports the entire spectrum of public works, from operations and maintenance to streets/roads/bridges, field and fleet management, capital project design and engineering, public grounds and facilities, and emergency response.
ArcGIS enables public works agencies to utilize the Geographic Approach. This is a framework and process that integrates all factors, creates understanding, helps find solutions, and improves collaboration. GIS is more than technology; it’s a way of thinking. The Geographic Approach helps us see connections, solve problems, and take smarter action.

Public works agencies are some of our longest-standing customers, some go back over forty years, and they are among our most innovative. While many agencies have embedded GIS into their daily work, others are integrating ArcGIS with advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, digital twins, drones, real-time sensor feeds, and augmented and virtual reality to realize the next generation of public works.
Here are some ways you can use your visit to PWX to learn more about how you can power next-generation public works with ArcGIS.

There will be kiosks dedicated to what’s new, capital improvement programs, field and fleet management, public grounds and facilities, streets/roads/bridges, and water.
In addition to our booth, Esri Partners will be exhibiting and presenting at PWX. Esri has over 3,000 business partners and they are represented across the PWX Exhibit Hall with dozens of booths that cover the full range of public works.
