Support for Microsoft SQL Server 2008

ArcGIS 9.3 (Service Pack 1) supports the two new spatial types in Microsoft SQL Server 2008. An enterprise geodatabase implemented on SQL Server 2008 is able to store vector geometry in either spatial type (Geography or Geometry). This enables users to perform SQL queries and operations on spatial data within SQL Server and to integrate geodatabase spatial data with other enterprise applications.

ArcGIS Server 9.3 Enterprise enables ESRI’s support for SQL Server 2008 to extend across its ArcGIS 9.3 platform including server, desktop, mobile, and online technology.

ESRI was the only business partner to demonstrate integration with SQL Server 2008 on stage with Microsoft presenters at the Microsoft SQL 2008 premier launch event. View the demo.

This development is a result of a close, multiyear collaboration with Microsoft in the development of SQL spatial extensions to SQL Server 2008.
